Curriculum map :

The English Department at Continental Palace Language School – Khamayl Branch offers a
comprehensive and engaging curriculum designed to foster a love for reading, improve
comprehension, and build strong language skills. Our curriculum follows the Common Core State
Standards (CCSS) and incorporates a variety of interactive resources and classic literature to
engage students at every stage of their learning.
Kindergarten:
In the kindergarten books should be engaging, age-appropriate, and focused on helping them to
develop foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The English main course
1- Life and me
2- Read on and fly phonics.
Primary stages:
Main Textbooks:
– Anchor Series (Reading, Grammar &Writing, Spelling &Phonics):
The main textbook series used across all grades is Anchor, which is aligned with the CCSS and
helps to develop essential skills in reading comprehension, grammar, writing, and phonics.

Primary Stage Curriculum (Lower Primary):
In the lower primary grades, students are introduced to classic stories that lay the foundation
for their reading comprehension. The texts are carefully chosen to be age-appropriate,
engaging, and educational:
– Year 1: The Ugly Duckling
– Year 2: Little Red Riding Hood
– Year 3: Aladdin

These timeless stories help build students& vocabulary and comprehension skills while
introducing them
to narrative structures and key moral lessons.
Upper Primary Curriculum (Grades 4–6):

In the upper primary grades, students are introduced to Shakespearean Drama, where they
engage
with some of the most iconic works of English literature. The texts help enhance their
understanding
of classical storytelling and advanced language structures.

– Year 4: The Merchant of Venice
– Year 5: Macbeth
– Year 6: Julius Caesar

These plays are carefully selected to introduce students to drama, characters, and themes while
improving their critical thinking, vocabulary, and literary analysis skills.

Foxton Readers Platform:
In addition to the traditional classroom texts, students also have access to the Foxton Readers
Platform, an interactive digital resource that supports reading comprehension. The platform
offers a wide selection of books that help target grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension in a
fun, engaging way. It allows students to progress at their own pace while developing their
language skills.
Reading Program:
Each grade level is assigned five readers per year, carefully selected to complement the main
curriculum and expand students’ exposure to diverse texts:

– 2 readers during the 1st term
– 2 readers during the 2nd term
– 1 reader during the summer vacation

This structured approach ensures that students are continually engaged with new texts
throughout
the year, promoting consistent reading habits and reinforcing their learning.

curriculum helps students not only improve their language skills but also develop a lifelong love
for reading.

Preparatory & secondary stages:
Main textbooks:
Alfa literature: provides up-to-date pedagogy and instruction in English Language Arts (ELA)with
a focus on Literature and informational texts. The program follows the common core state
standards (CSSS) for English Language Arts and Literacy.
The Literature Selections feature award-winning authors from around the world with a vast
array of classic and contemporary literature in a variety of genres, illustrated with visually
appealing photography, artworks, and images of fine art.
The stand- alone and paired text selections in each unit give students multiple opportunities for
in-depth literacy analysis.
In addition We offer a list of readers from the English novels: The prisoner of Zenda, Jane Eyre,
Great expectations and A Christmas Carol.
